About 5 years ago, I decided to amp up the glamour just in time for New Years’ Eve by popping into a well known lash lounge and treating myself to lash extensions…..

Unfortunately, I am the small percentage of people who suffer from allergic reactions to the lash glue, and I woke up the following morning with my eyes swollen shut! Once the swelling went down, I was totally bummed that I was going to be able to have the long lashes I had desired, and Plan B had to be thrown into action: Figure out how to apply false lashes….and almost 5 years later, after becoming a master at this craft, I still wear them every single day!

I don’t mean to brag, but today is my BIRTHDAY!

And as I enter into my 34th year of this fabulous life, I wanted to share 34 things I’ve learned along the way:

  • Prayer works miracles and is powerful.
  • Beauty rest is a real thing. I sleep almost 10 hours a night!
  • Money is better spent on a good skincare regimen than a pair of shoes.
  • Red lipstick can change your entire mood.
  • Listen twice and speak once. We’ve got 2 ears and 1 mouth for a reason.
  • Pride is your biggest enemy.
  • Clean out your closet at least every 6 months and don’t save it unless it fits perfectly!
  • If you are the smartest person in a room, then you’re standing in the wrong room.
  • Drinking plenty water is the best beauty ritual to have.
  • Good fitting blazers and jeans are investments that your closet desperately needs.
  • My mother is always right.
  • I’m okay with becoming my mother when I grow up.
  • Saying “no” can be a really positive thing every now and then.
  • When it comes to friends, I’d rather have 4 quarters than 10 dimes. Quality > Quantity
  • Don’t believe everything you hear and don’t engage in childish gossip.
  • Know your own truth, hold it close to your heart, and protect it dearly.
  • The internet isn’t a home for dirty laundry. Keep that crap private.
  • A rescue dog will save your life more than you save theirs.
  • Wearing bright colors will always get you more compliments than wearing all black.
  • Leopard print is without a doubt a neutral.
  • Find older women to mentor you. Find younger women to be a mentor to.
  • Backup your iPhone and computer regularly.
  • Learn how to cook 10 recipes REALLY well.
  • Always have cold champagne. You never know when you might want to celebrate.
  • Don’t underestimate the value of a good attorney, accountant, and dry cleaners.
  • 30 minutes of quiet time at the beginning of the day will clear your mind.
  • Pilates will change your posture, your ass, your abs, and how your clothes fit.
  • Hostess gifts and thank you letters never go unnoticed.
  • Fresh flowers in your home will make you feel like a domesticated goddess.
  • Worrying about things you despise is called STRESS.
  • Worrying about things you love is called PASSION.
  • Learn how to say “I am sorry” and really freaking mean it.
  • Guard your heart with everything, but know when to give it to someone deserving.
  • You can be the person who changes someone’s day with just a smile.

What’s some advice or tidbits you’ve learned along the way?! I would love to hear them in the comments below!

Y’all know probably know by now that I am a woman of who is consumed with a lot of fabulous obsessions.

Sometimes its jewelry, sometimes its makeup, sometimes its leather, but right now, its over the knee boots. I’d be ashamed to admit again how many pairs I’ve purchased this season, but now that number has risen again. Sorry, not sorry.

These grey faux suede over the knee boots from Shoes.com immediately caught my eye. The shade was unlike anything else I already own, which that simple fact was enough to make them a no brainer, but I also loved how wide and loose they fitted on my legs…another feature unlike anything else I have. And let me mention the $129 Shoes.com price tag, too…..UMMM, SOLD! WRAP THEM UP! But then I stood with these new grey over the knee boots in my closet, and I was surprised with how many variations I found to wear them: Casually with a shirt dress & sweater…sassed up with some fun fur & a suede dress…or tailored chic with skinny denim & a blazer!

And I might be in trouble, because I just discovered that Shoes.com has them in black, too! So whether your over the knee boot budget is $80 or you’ve got a couple hundred to spend this season, Shoes.com has something for everyone….from casual or fancy to men or women! And who wouldn’t want some new boots sitting under the Christmas tree this year?!

Over the knee boots….have you indulged in a pair yet?!

Summer Dress & a Wool Jacket?

Every season it’s the same complaint: When will it be hot again? When will it be cold again?

But for some reason, the warm temperatures in Dallas lasted much longer than expected this year and, to my dismay, I got quite accustom to wearing my warm weather clothing. There were some pieces that were in such rotation that pulling them out of my fall/winter closet has literally been SUPER DIFFICULT for me!

Take this simple, white dress…..this was my “go-to” on days when I didn’t want to get dressed! All I had to do was find some sandals, jewelry, & a bag….then I was good to go! And do you know the pain I have felt by not reaching for this regular?!

Well, I decided to shake things up recently: There was a day here in Dallas that was cold in the morning when I headed out, but was planned to be warm in the afternoon….so, it was a moment of mixed feelings. I paired a silk, white flowy dress with my new favorite wool blazer, and topped them off with strong accessories like suede OTK (over the knee, duh) boots, a navy leather tote, and a heavy-metal Courtney Big necklace.

You hardly remember that this is a summer dress now….right, right?!

Any summer items in your closet that you haven’t been able to keep you hands off of?!

The Holiday Edition with Express

Leather Biker Jacket: c/o Express; Leather Pants: c/o Express; Silk Lace Tie Blouse; c/o Express; Hat: c/o Express; Gold Clutch: c/o Express; Heels: Christian Louboutin, old (OMG identical $35 knockoff HERE); Earrings: Oscar de la Renta, old (Similar HERE); Crystal Rings, sold as a set of 4: Bauble Bar; Pinky Ring: Bauble Bar; Gold Love Bangles: Accessory Concierge; Watch: Michele

Are there brands out there that you kindof feel like you’ve grown up with?!

For me, one of those brands that really stands out is Express….I think the love affair dates all the way back to back to high school, then it carried me through my “black pants & going out top” phase, and then there’s fond memories of purchasing my first 2-piece suit for job interviews! Express has ultimately been with me for, easily, the last 15 years of my life.

And if you’ve been a gal like me who has loved Express for as long as you can remember, then STOP EVERYTHING YOU’RE DOING RIGHT NOW. They’ve got a HUGE announcement & launch from the brand, and of course, I’ve got all the breaking scoop:

Today, Express is debuting their first ever high-end capsule collection, “EDITION,” which features iconic classic pieces, updated with cool sophistication & modern street style. This 56-piece collection, which focuses on luxury fabrics & attention to detail, will feature one of my favorite “it girls,” Suki Waterhouse, as the face of the collection, and it ranges in price from $50-500. David Komberg, President & CEO of Express says, “Edition personifies the Express girl who is sexy, confident, & irresistibly individual.”

Two weeks ago I received a sneak peek of “EDITION” with a box of some of the collection, and the second I laid eyes on it, I could tell what sets its apart: The products are quality made, they feel luxurious on my body, and not to mention, the fit is above and beyond. (I actually wore the blouse pictured out with girlfriends….and they ALL ooh-ed and ahh-ed, and couldn’t believe that it was Express!)

EDITION,” which has something for everyone….including statement accessories (Hi, gold clutch!), a modernized classic tux, a lace maxi dress that will make your heart stop, silk blouses, and tons of leather, will be available at a select 27 stores & online.

So, I guess it’s safe to say…if Express wasn’t already one of your favorites, I don’t doubt it will be now.

Ahhhhh, the reoccurring question in this day and age: Leggings….are they actually pants?

Well, if you want me to give you my unfiltered, blunt, sorry-if-I-hurt-your-feelings answer, then I hate to break it to you, but leggings are, in fact, NOT PANTS. They are leggings. But if they are worn with the correct item up top, can they be treated as pants? ABSOLUTELY. Can they be treated as tights? TOTALLY! But just remember, they still aren’t pants!

Carbon 38 does a wonderful job of curating some “function meets fashion” pieces that can really be worn in any way….whether you are headed to yoga, pilates, running errands, or even to a night out on the town, you can mix up their assortment of leggings to cater to your lifestyle! And isn it nice to know that a company wants to ensure that you are making a statement no matter what you are up to? But for me and my day, I need pieces that can easily transition from errands to evening…all with some simple swap outs that take my look from “girl on the go” to “glam girl!”

For running errands, I like to feel comfy: I took a cozy oversized, hooded sweatshirt and paired it with these leatherback leggings and my favorite pair of floral Nikes! (Not to mention the beanie because who has time to brush their hair when they’ve got a to do list to complete?!) But for evening, I want to feel a a little more dressed up: Its all about an oversized striped tunic mixed with the right accessories that pop! In this look though, I treated the leggings like tights and tucked them into a fringe black bootie to make my legs look miles long! (And nothing says glam like a red lip, right?) BUT, the one rule that I consistently followed about the leggings (and you should, too….PLEASE!), is to make sure that your, ummm, “area” is covered….nobody wants to see that…well, maybe someone does, but that’s whole other discussion!

What’s your take on the legging debate?! Chime in and give me your opinion in the comments below! And scroll through to shop some of my favorite Carbon 38 leggings that can easily go from “errands to evening!”

Pink Lips, Pink Heels

As a little girl, if there was one color I truly despised wearing, it was undoubtedly the color pink. It was too cutesy…too common…too “look at me, being all girly!” I wasn’t having it.

Pink clothing was always off limits to me, but what’s funny is that as an adult, it’s a color that has somehow grown on me. My apartments houses lots if pink (remember this gallery wall, and this barcart, and these bookends?!) and I have learned to embrace pink in different ways! And much like how I use pink as an accessory in my home, I have found that I can do that with my wardrobe and style, too….without ever having to actually wear pink from head to toe! A pink statement heel and a pink lip are enough for me!

Is there a shade in the color wheel that you have a hard time with?!
