The White Jeans Debate

Blazer: Zara (Similar); Blouse: Forever 21; Jeans: Zara (Shop ShopBop’s selection of white jeans here); Shoes: ShoeMint; Bag: Louis Vuitton; Earrings: Gorjana; Crystal Necklace: Spike the Punch; Watch: Michael Kors; Spike Necklace: c/o Bauble Bar; Bracelet: J.Crew, old; Cone Cuffs: c/o Bauble Bar; Pave Ring: Gorjana; Stackable Gold Rings: Gorjana; Sunglasses: Guess; Nails: Essie Fifth Avenue; Lips: Nars Dragon Girl

Ahhh, white jeans.  The subject of many sartorial arguments over the years: When is it appropriate to wear them? Can you wear them before Easter? Or is it First Day of Spring? What about after Labor Day? Memorial Day?

(To think that people still adhere to these silly fashion rules is beyond me.)

Living in Texas makes following seasonal dressing rules quite unnecessary: One day in January we might be sitting on patios in 80 degree weather, and the next morning we will wake up to snow and ice on the ground.  To to tell me what I can and can’t wear depending on what month we are in is just silly.

So when people ask me when you can start wearing white jeans, here’s what I say:

Wear what you like, when you like, how you like….and be so fabulous that you don’t have time to follow the rules.

  • Rachelle

Great outfit, you look so chic.

  • Dale Janee @Savvy_Spice

I couldn’t agree with you more and was actually just wearing white denim today. Fashion rules are made to be broken and you look amazing in these white jeans with the heels! Love your blog and your style

    great post!

  • Jamie

I totally agree, white jeans are always an option no matter what time of the year it is! Love the white on white here, fabulous!

    XO, Jamie

  • Erin

Agreed! Fashion “rules” are so outdated. You look great!

I could not agree more with you that this day in age in fashion anything goes. Fashion “rules” are obsolete, very 1950s. Rock what makes you feel good & beautiful because people are always going to have something negative to say.

    PS- that necklace is amaze.

  • Lauren

completely agree– thanks for addressing the topic though!

  • cake & valley

OMG yes . . . love a white suit! and you are rocking it.
plus white is a year long color- love breaking the “rules”

White jeans are great when bought in your size, these look too small on you, your thighs look plus size and that pic with the zipper kind of looks like muffin top problem.

    • Allison

      Shut up Tory

    • Carly

Your comment is not only rude, but clearly a reflection of your own poor body image, even though you may be a gorgeous girl. You should be building up women in general. Cutting others down only makes you appear petty and mean spirited. Obviously Courtney is beautiful and thin, but you are implying that being plus sized should be looked down on. Very, very sad.

P.S. For true beauty, speak only words of kindness.

      • Tory

I never implied there is something wrong with being plus size, I wrote that the wrong size makes her look plus size which she is not. Courtney on the other hand said to her mother on national TV ” nobody likes a fat single girl” look it up, since you’re her cheerleader.
I also said white jeans should be worn in your own size to look good. We agree on something though, Courtney is beautiful. I just happen to think her beauty is ONLY on the outside.

    • ashley

      wow. moron.

  • Elizabeth

whats wrong with some old southern adherence to no white until after easter and not after labor day-nothing wrong with not adhering either………….guess its an southern thing like monogramming eveerrrryything

  • Caroline S

Love this look! This white is totally flattering on you and I like the way you created a casual suit with seperates! The chambray shirt was the perfect last touch!

  • Tia

I could not agree more. Rules are sometimes meant to be broken! Love your outfit and think you are so pretty!
Proverbs 27:17 as iron sharp pens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.
Build each other up. Not tear others down!

  • annie

@tory: i take it by your comment that you are a perfect specimen completely without flaw and, obviously, capable of rocking white jeans without even one inch of unflattering denim in sight, right? i couldn’t imagine your feeling it appropriate to make such a crass comment otherwise, but, on the off chance that you’re flawed like courtney – and the rest of the female population – i’d like to remind you of something the very wise, and brilliantly flawed, madeleine albright once said which i feel you could personally benefit from reading aloud a few times: “there’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.”
the next time you feel the urge to hide behind your computer screen and attempt to chip away at another woman’s self esteem i hope you’ll think twice, because the last thing this world needs is one more person bringing down women – and having a woman at the helm of such negativity, to boot!
i beg of you to please think twice before spouting any of that hatefulness in the presence of young, impressionable girls who already have a dangerously misguided view on “normal,” because as a young woman i can tell you firsthand that it’s women like courtney, women who champion being themselves no matter what, who showcase that it’s not only okay to be yourself, but also incredibly cool – and that’s something worth celebrating, not degrading.

    • Tory

Thanks for your concerns for me and the sermon. And you’re right Courtney is the Perfect example of empowering women unless you don’t get a manicure every week or have a baby out of wedlock. She’s the most shallow person and you are obviously too in love with her to see it 🙂

      • Ali

@ all the Tory haters: I have to commend Courtney for willingly putting herself out there for all of us to judge. With that being said, please remember this is an open forum for fashion dialogue about whether or not Courtney got it, outfit wise. Tory is obviously welcome to express her thoughts, and I do happen to agree with her. I think the jeans are too tight, and I would not tuck in a denim shirt to white jeans…you can see it through her pants.
So maybe you ladies should revisit that quote from Madeleine Albright, because from where I am sitting, hiding behind my computer, seems like there is more bullying than building up going on. Or you could Google other quotes from her and come up with this…
“I really think that there was a great advantage in many ways to being a woman. I think we are a lot better at personal relationships, and then have the capability obviously of telling it like it is when it’s necessary.”

  • Chelsea

You look amazing!! Love the outfit! Rock it girl 🙂

  • Katrina [Parker and West]

I LOVE the look of white on white; it reminds me of the Spring 2013 runway looks from Vera Wang and BCBG. You look amazing!

  • Huong

Right? Our weather is so crazy! IF we had to stick to fashion rules, Texas gals have a right to break them all because of our bipolar weather, haha! You look amazing as always, love!

I follow you on Instagram and saw your recent post of the insult you received from “Tory.” Completely shocked, I have to comment. I follow many blogs and must say that you are by far one of the most gorgeous girls I’ve seen! Your style is absolutely fab and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried to imitate your look. Clearly this “Tory” girl is jealous that she can’t look as gorgeous and fabulous as you do every single day. Don’t let this disgusting human being get to you. Keep posting and looking gorg! Xoxo

  • morgann

Agreed! I love white jeans with a cream sweater and brown booties in winter!

  • Charlie

Those jeans are begging for mercy!

  • Ashleigh

Sorry- but, I agree with @Tory. If the zipper is peaking out, the jeans are too small. Not to mention they crease up in the rolls of her behind.

You ladies are so quick to jump to Courtney’s behalf- it’s a PUBLIC BLOG. She can’t expect to put pictures of herself out there and only get positive feedback. Besides, no one mentioned her weathered face, horse teeth or less than modelesque figure. She was merely criticized on her wishful thinking when it comes to jean size. Hopefully her little minions aren’t single mothers (we all know how she feels about that).

Oh and one more thing- maybe use the term “hater” less often and instead fix your character flaws. You don’t have the outer beauty to make up for your lack of inner beauty.

  • Tory

Here’s what white jeans in your own size SHOULD look like. Just go up a size for crying out loud, you look like a size 8.

  • Cameron Proffitt

I love the sunnies. You look amazing!

  • sissy

holy cow those jeans are way way to small! holy cow-up size it up by 2 good lord
