I spend a fair amount of time in airports…enough to feel like I am a tenured, seasoned traveler who has mastered the science of quick, efficient traveling practices.

But among all the hours spent flying the friendly skies, I have discovered 2 things that bother me most about airports:

1.  TSA Agents on a power trip

2. The lack of pride in most Americans’ appearance

I get that there are early flights (heck, I was traveling to the airport at 3am this morning!) and I get that people want to be comfortable….but since when does being comfy mean you have to sacrifice being chic?!

Here are some of my favorite tips when it comes to looking airport chic:

-Wear a pant (like my cargos) that are comfy enough to spend lots of hours sitting in.

-Loose fitting tops are your best friend…with all the unpacking at the security gate, hoisting your carryon into the overhead compartment, and squirming in your seat, the last thing you want is to feel restricted and like you have to suck in!

-Choose shoes that can slide on and off easily…perhaps my ShoeMint studded high heels are a little overzealous, but hey, its one less pair that would take up room in your suitcase!

-A messenger bag is essential to stowing away all the nonsense that us ladies accumulate in our handbags….and it leaves your hands free!

-Lightweight jackets or sweaters can make or break a good travel experience…I am kindof like Goldilocks in the sense that I am always “too cold” or “too hot” inside airports and planes, so having layers is key.

What do you like to wear while you travel?!

You are going to walk all through the airport in heels! Good luck and God bless!

Do you recommend a different cut on the cargos for us ladies with shorter/thicker legs?

There is nothing worse than seeing people in the airport in pajamas or looking like they were almost ran over by a plane! Great tips!

I always wear flats. Comfortable and easy to take off. Also, I always bring a sweater as I tend to get cold once on the plane. Great outfit! And I love the earrings.

How do you get your hair in that adorable bun?

Definitely going to remember these tips for the next time I travel! By the way, I have been trying to get onto the Gorjana website for 2 weeks now and it hasn’t been working. Anyone know why?!

I wear light layers to adjust to airplane weather and flats so they can slip on and off easily. Love the outfit! Very casual, but put together!

I agree about folks dressing in public – mass transit is indeed a horrible example of our society’ laziness…Keep preaching!! :)

I choose the largest set of shoes I have that easily slide off to take up less baggage space. And always look presentable – I never know when I might run into someone that I want to think highly of me!

P.S. I adore how you mix high and low end pieces- you include & immaculately style pieces that the “every girl” can afford, yet make them look like 1million dollars. Please don’t ever change that, I’m always so disappointed when a favorite blogger “sells out” and starts wearing only high-end pieces I only day dream about.

Very cute! We’re definitely on the same page about the atrocities of “comfort” in airline travel. If I can get it together for 24 hours of flying to South Africa, they can get it together for a flight from DFW –> EWR. Layering is key, accessories that are easy to take on/off, eyedrops, and a girls best friend…hand sanitizer :-)

i definitely don’t look this awesome when i travel, but i NEVER wear sneakers or sweatpants. it’s usually leggings/jeggings or super stretchy jeans, flat boots, and some sort of loose top b/c i bloat like a 250lb man on an all sodium diet once i change altitudes.
in all seriousness, love the outfit. and proud to have just discovered your blog via pinterest :)

Loving your look, especially the bun. I like to wear an oversize scarf when traveling, doubles as a blanket or pillow on the airplane!

  18. Nomadic D says:

Gorgeous! Love the simplicity and ease of it (though honestly the heels seem impossible to me), but I love the lightweight silk tank with the tougher cargos.

That leather jacket makes the outfit. It went from cute to WOW. Love it. I too would have worn flats at the airport, cute ones, but flats as there is always way more walking than you think.
