There are moments that happen in your life that you never forget, but then there are moments in your life that you never forget because you seriously cannot believe it is real life!  And over the past couple of months, I have had a couple of “OMG, take my breath away” moments…..2 of them happened this past week and I couldn’t help but share:

  • June Ambrose, celebrity stylist, came and said hello to me before the Tracy Reese show and told me I inspired her to cut her hair (ummmmm, I’m sorry, WHAT?! I inspired YOU?!)….pretty certain I blacked out for a moment.
  • Elie Tahari offered to dress me for his presentation (Mah-jor playing dress up moment for me!), and after meeting him, I got to say a quick hello to Joan Rivers (Dying. Dying. Dying!)

Ever had an encounter that stopped you in your tracks and took your breath away?! I want to hear it!

Navy + Black at Lacoste

Photo Courtesy of Larry Busacca/Getty Images

Dress: c/o Lacoste (not available yet); Tights: SPANX; Heels: Zara; Necklace: Bauble Bar; Earrings: Gorjana; Ring: Gorjana

When I think of Lacoste I generally think of severely popped collars meets schoolgirl prep meets primary colors…any of this ringing a bell for you too?!  And yes, that tone was present throughout the Lacoste FW2014 show, but in the CHICCCCCCCCCCEST way possible.

I was thrilled to wear this striped, navy Lacoste Live collared dress…which I funk’ed up a bit and put a Courtney spin on it by pairing it back to black tights, black & navy booties, and topped it off with a statement necklace. (And in case you were wondering…navy has been supremely present in tons of the collections this season…so continue to invest in some navy statement pieces!)

Hope everyone has a great Monday!

Go Red

Okay, I’ll come out and say it: New York Fashion Week can be pretty vain and materialistic….but that’s what we got ourselves into the first place, right?! We participate in this week of highly elevated pomp & circumstance because we love every minute of it and we prefer to dive head first in the concrete pool known as “the fashion industry.”

But one thing is for sure: The Go Red Fashion Show benefitting the American Heart Association will put it all into perspective.

Every year, the Red Dress Fashion Show kicks off New York Fashion Week by having celebrities walk the runway in red dress to help raise awareness for the American Heart Association.  This year, the grand fete was emceed by Star Jones, who shared her own testimony of battle heart disease and suffering through open heart surgery. The runway was adorned by some fabulous gals such as Victoria Justice, Daphne Oz, Colbie Calliat, Joan Jett, and my personal favorite, Bravo TV’s own Nene Leakes.

I couldn’t help but leave the show feeling a little bit empowered…and it reminded me that despite all the runways, and the trends, and the hashtags, and the celeb spottings, that when women are strutting their stuff in a showstopping red dress and its all for a good cause, anything they wear looks fabulous!

Matchy, Matchy

One of my favorite parts of being in NYC for fashion week is getting the opportunity to make new friends and connect with other people who love fashion as much as I do! And thanks to AMEX, I was able to do just that on Thursday during the Tadashi show!

This year AMEX has a private skybox (think: suite at a sporting event but for fashion shows instead!) where select AMEX cardholders can be wined and dined with yummy snacks and champagne while they watch their favorite shows…and after each show, AMEX hosts a Q & A with a fashion influencer.

I was so excited to be invited to chat with Lottie Oakley yesterday, as we talked about everything from blogging to reality television to how I like to mix high & low fashion.  The crowd was great (I think I got a couple laughs out of them!) and it was such an honor to connect with the fans! Thank you AMEX for another fun, fashionable experience!

Grid & Bear It

Coat: Nordstrom; Sweater: Velvet (no longer available in black, but here is the cream version); Skirt: c/o Milk & Honey; Boots: c/o Milk & Honey (Or buy here); Sunglasses: Chanel, old; Gloves: Zara; Earrings: Gorjana; Tiered Necklace: Gorjana; Ring Necklace: Gorjana; Lips: MAC Ruby Woo

Well, things are moving a mile a minute here in NYC for fashion week…and with degrees in the 20′s and mounds of snow on the ground, staying warm (while trying to still look chic!) is the name of the game!

Sadly, the majority of my cold weather clothes are black, black, black….which I why I couldn’t resist pairing this red jacket with a graphic, grid printed skirt…the combination definitely stands out amongst a sea of black, dontcha think?!

Happy Friday & stay warm!

Strolling the Village

Blazer: Milk & Honey; Jeans: c/o The Dreslyn (no longer available in denim, but here is the white version and here is the black version); Tank: Madewell; Scarf: Zara; Flats: J.Crew (& ON SUPER SUPER SALE!); Bag: Phillip Lim; Watch: Michael Kors; 4-Letter Word Ring: Gorjana; BFF Ring: Gorjana; Knotty Pinky Ring: All the Wire; Midi Ring: All the Wire; Cone Cuff: C.Wonder; Double Bar Cuff: Gorjana; Cuff: Gorjana; Earrings: Gorjana; Sunglasses: Ray-Ban; Lips: MAC Ruby Woo; Nails: OPI Inked

Tomorrow is the big day…I am headed to NYC for 10 days for New York Fashion Week.  And as Carrie Bradshaw so famously said on Sex & the City, “Every year women leave the past behind and look forward to the future…this is known as Fashion Week.” (I couldn’t have said it better, SJP!)

And even though I know I will do plenty of shopping in NYC, for some reason I always feel the need to shop before I leave on a big trip….anyone else get this urge?! I begin to pack and think, “What am I forgetting? Do I have enough cold weather items? What last minute items will take my suitcase from good to great?!” Its silly, I know….but its as if my suitcase is experiencing FOMO (fear of missing out) and anxiety kicks in.

So I cured my packing nerves by strolling Highland Park Village, and to my surprise….I walked away empty handed with no shopping bags.  Were the shopping gods looking over me?! Does this mean the perfect outfit for fashion week is already hanging in my closet?!

Dangit, guess I’m back to the drawing board.

Any last minute packing tips that y’all can share?

Twirl Me Around

Shirt: c/o 7FAM; Skirt: Express; Shoes: Zara, old; Bag: Rebecca Minkoff; Watch: Michael Kors; Earrings: Gorjana; Ring: Gorjana; Knotty Pinky Ring: All the Wire; Bib Necklace: Bauble Bar; Monogram Necklace: Bauble Bar; You’re My Person Necklace: All the Wire; Double Bar Cuff: Gorjana; Monogram Cuff: c/o Accessory Concierge; Sunglasses: Ray-Ban; Lips: MAC Ruby Woo

Fashion has this incredible ability to immediately put you in a mood…or in some cases, snap you out of one (retail therapy, anyone?!).

The second I laid eyes on this skirt, I wanted it…I needed it…I bought it. But not because its super flattering (which it kindof isn’t…and I am fine with that), or because it was super practical…but because it made me happy.  It made me want to twirl.  It made me feel girly and flouncy.  IT MADE ME FEEL GOOD.

And when it boils down to it, isn’t that one of the emotional purposes of getting dressed everyday? Isn’t it the best feeling ever when an outfit can put a smile on your face?!  Not everyone will like how this skirt makes my hips appear fuller. Some of you might say that this skirt isn’t the best choice for my body.

But you know what?!

Is there an article of clothing in your closet that always puts a smile on your face no matter what?

You’re My Person

Photos c/o Mat Wulff Photography

Dress: Carven, The Outnet (no longer available); “You’re My Person” Necklace:  All the Wire; Earrings: Gorjana; Bow Cuff: Bauble Bar, old; Watch: Michael Kors; Monogram Cuff: c/o Accessory Concierge; Knotty Pinky Ring: All the Wire; Chevron Midi Ring: All the Wire; Chaplin Ring: Gorjana; Nails: OPI You’re Such a Budapest; Lips: Mac Ruby Woo

The story started with a boy and a girl:

Girl: “How much do you love me?”

Boy: ” A lot.”

Girl: “Seriously, how much do you love me?!”

Boy: “Look out the window. See how the telephone wire keeps going and going? That’s how much I love you….all the wire…”

Years later the boy and the girl were married, and the 3 little words “all the wire” were engraved inside their wedding bands.  And many, many years later…that girl is letting others tell their story on jewelry the exact same way.

Many of you know Tori Gonzales, my best friend of several years and co-star on Bravo TV’s “Courtney Loves Dallas.” Well, what you might not know is that she is half of the dynamic duo of All the Wire…& her sister, Desiree, is “the girl” from the story that started it all.

They let customers tell their story, whatever story it may be, under 10 characters, through stamped jewelry.  But because I get to play the best friend card (and I am never short on words, or characters, in this case) they have let me tell my new story in 14 characters….

…You’re My Person.

Many of you might remember this Instagram photo from my birthday…I was surprised with my new All the Wire necklace from HIM (omg, I know…yes, I have a HIM…but his identity is still under wraps!)…..and so many of you have asked Tori & Desiree about ordering this special phrased necklace that they are making it exclusively available in limited quantity for the month of February!

You can order the All the Wire “You’re My Person” Necklace on their website through February 28, but if you want it in time for Valentine’s Day, then you will have to put in your order by February 1st! And remember, the necklace is a limited edition piece…which means when its gone, IT’S GONE!

But let’s be honest y’all…men might come and go…but YOU, my readers…you’re my person(s)!  You have supported me, and loved me, and given me a platform to share my life with you…SO…thanks to All the Wire, I am giving away 3 “You’re My Person” Necklaces away on the blog! Enter using the rafflecopter below, and if it doesn’t load, just refresh your browser.  Good Luck!

I’ve got a lot to smile about.

I don’t say that to brag….I say that because, well, quite frankly, frowning gives you wrinkles…and we all know that wrinkles are not your friend.

But part of my new year’s resolutions for the year of 2014 is to focus less on the things that make me sad, the things I worry about, or things that I cannot control…..and focus more on the things that bring me joy, allow me to succeed, or obviously, make me smile!  So what better way to kick off a new year and new resolutions, than by partnering with the folks from Crest 3D White?!  I figure if it’s gonna be a year of smiles, then it most definitely needs to be accompanied by bright, white, brilliantly lustrous pearly whites….don’t you agree?! Maintaining your gorgeous, healthy smile should be a part of your daily beauty routine, and lucky for me, the Crest 3D White Collection makes it simple: When brushing my teeth, I use the Crest 3D White Glamourous White Toothpaste….and when getting ready for a special event, or I just want my smile to really glow, I use the Crest 3D White Whitestrips…and of course, top it all off with my favorite red lipstick!

To find out more about #MySmile and hear what I have to smile about, watch this Crest 3D White video below, or check out the February 2014 “Women in Television” issue of Elle Magazine on newsstands now!

So, the obvious question is….What makes YOU smile?!

Ps. Follow Crest 3D White on Facebook here, or on Twitter & Instagram @3DWhite! PLUS, for a chance to win all of Elle’s 2014 Beauty Genius products handpicked by Elle’s editors, upload a selfie of your bright, white smile to Instagram…and don’t forget to tag @3DWhite and include the hashtag #MySmile!

Tonight was rough.  No matter what I did, I felt like I just couldn’t pull it together!  And I am beginning to learn that balancing it all and pleasing everyone all the time is pretty much close to impossible.

Here are some moments that I really sucked at life this week:

  • The audition for “The Broadcast” morning show was tougher than I every imagined (who knew talking could be so hard for me?!)
  • Tori hated her birthday shopping spree (Seriously?!)
  • Tori was offended that I offered to give her Botox (I hate to be the bearer of bad news….but we aren’t getting any younger!)
  • And Tori was not happy that I was working on her birthday (Mama has to pay the bills!)

And trust me…things with Tori and I will continue to get worse before they get better.  UGH.

What are yall’s tips for finding balance in your stressful, daily routines?

Ps. For those of you (like me!) who have accepted the fact that gravity is tough on your skin and you need to feel a little more beautiful, I HIGHLY encourage you to go see Dr. Adelglass of Skintastic! As you saw on “Courtney Loves Dallas” tonight, he is the only man I will trust my skin with…and he really makes beauty affordable and makes clients feel comfortable! (And for the record, I am not being paid to say that….I genuinely adore Skintastic, their whole team, and their beauty philosophy!)
