Thank you to YOU, the readers, the supporters, the fans, for allowing me to feel comfortable sharing my life (and my outfits, duh!) with you. You make what I do not feel like work…you make it worth it!

Here’s to many more outfits to come!

Linen Love/Hate

Dress: ℅ Rio Ritz; Booties: Gianvito Rossi; Bag: Phillip Lim, old (Shop new colors HERE); Sunglasses: Ray-Ban; Earrings: Kendra Scott; Bracelets: Charming Charlie, Peace Love Jessica, old; Ring: Kendra Scott, old (Similar); Watch: Michele; Hermes Cuff

When the Dallas, Texas temperatures are kissing 3-digits (I actually just overheard the weatherman say it feels like 108 degrees outside today), the last thing you want to do is put clothes on your body that are going to make you feel even hotter.

Polyester, no.

Silk, sweat stains galore.

Denim, ugh.

Basically, you’ve got 2 choices: cotton or linen. (Well, technically you have 3 choices, but we can’t stay in the pool all day!)

Cotton is a breathable no brainer…but linen, oh linen, we’ve got a little bit of a love/hate thing going on.  Love: Comfy, cool, airy, chic. Hate: wrinkles, wrinkles, wrinkles…did I mention wrinkles?!

But this summer I have come to embrace the wrinkles and embrace linen despite its major flaw.  After 32 years of this battle I finally realized that I can’t make linen be something its not…linen has always and will always wrinkle…and while I have been trying to fight it all this time, what I should’ve been doing is celebrating the fact that it’s one more thing I don’t have to iron myself.  The wrinkles give it character…wrinkles are it’s “thing.”

And sometimes, when it comes to clothes, or even to people, the flaws in the product are what separates it from the rest and gives a dose of originality, right?!

If you are anything like me, then when you are preparing to go on vacation, you decide that suddenly nothing in your closet is good enough and you MUST purchase some new “vacation clothes.”

I scooped up this totally impractical fringe bag for a trip to Mexico, but threw it into my suitcase during a recent trip to Austin…but then when I carried it to brunch one afternoon and stumbled upon this painted Virgin Mary wall, it became a happy, practical accident and a perfect spot to snap some pics! Don’t you love when that happens?!

TGIF and enjoy the first day of August!

Over the past couple of weeks, I have found myself on more planes than I would like to admit, and traveling in a chic manner has become the name of the game.  But how does one do it and still manage to be comfortable? THAT, my friends, is the million dollar question, right?!

When it comes to being comfortable, three things always come to my mind:

  1. Broken in tee
  2. Hug every curve, yet move with every curve denim, and
  3. Climate control outerwear

Oddly enough, these three simple concepts all have two things in common: They are shades of black and/or grey, and they are all easily accessible go-to items from Express.  Dressing in black and being a part of the fashion industry these days seems so cliche (I know, right?!)…but it’s nice to be able to reach for these inexpensive items from Express (as well as stock up on them!) without breaking the bank!

And if there is one thing about dressing in black I love, it’s that it shouts,” LEAVE ME ALONE! Don’t mess with me and I won’t mess with you!” (Because there is nothing worse than a chatty plane neighbor, now is there?!)

So, I’d love to know, what is your favorite travel attire?

Last weekend, me and my bestie, Tori, packed our bags and took a last minute road trip to Austin.  The best part of this trip was that it was totally spontaneous, but one side effect of being spontaneous is that you sometimes forget to pack the essentials.

I had fully intended on wearing this silk dress out one night with the perfect nude heel….but amidst the frantic packing session, the nude heels were no where to be found in my suitcase once we landed in Austin.

My improv skills took over and I decided to take this silk shift dress from night to day and threw it on with my old faithful Converse tennis shoes instead.  And surprisingly, it totally worked!

“Every day life begins to sparkle when we realize our friends are the glitter.”

On that note, I am headed to Austin this weekend on a last minute, totally unplanned, 100% spontaneous trip with my BFF, Tori….and it couldn’t come at a more perfect time.  Sometimes, a little girl time is just what the soul needs!

Have a great weekend!

Shopping can bring out all my impracticalities and weaknesses.

There is A LOT I don’t need.  There is A LOT that is unnecessary.

But sometimes, there are dresses that just talk dirty to you, wink at you, and then flirt with you as they whisper, “Buy me, buy me.”  And next thing you know you are swiping your debit card for, yet, another dress that you have justified not living without.  This dress will complete you.  This dress will find a happy home in your closet.  You absolutely cannot live without this dress.

The dress pictured above….yep, she seduced me.

But hey, do you blame me?!

One Easy Maxi

Dress: Topshop x Nordstrom; Hat: J.Crew; Shoes: ℅ Sole Society; Bag: Phillip Lim; Necklace: Thank you, Akola Project…so happy to support a good cause by wearing this!; Spike Bracelet: ℅ Stella & Dot; Watch: Michele; Hermes Cuff; Cone Cuff: C.Wonder; Cuff: Gorjana; Earrings: Gorjana; Lips: NARS Timanfaya Park

Despite how much I absolutely LOVE getting dressed every morning, sometimes its just really freaking hard.

“It’s too hot outside and I don’t want anything touching my body.”

“I feel bloated and nothing fits.”

“I just want stay in my pajamas.”

“UGH!!!!! I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!” (panic attack/temper tantrum begins on the floor of closet.)

So sometimes it;s nice to have those outfits that take all the guess work out of planning an outfit.  Maxi dress…heels…fedora….statement necklace…..BOOM….DONE!

What do you reach for in your closet when you are having one of “those mornings?”

Weekend Rituals with Clarisonic

IMG_8383

Clarisonic PLUS for Face & Body; Face Cleanser: Bliss; Body Cleanser: Bliss; Body Lotion: Bliss; Robe: Josie; Watch: Michele; Earrings: Gorjana (or shop Nordstrom’s Gorjana selection HERE); Nails: Orly Kiss the Bride; Toes: OPI Cajun Shrimp; Lips: MAC Creme Cup; Coffee Mug: Nordstrom

Weekends are full of rituals: Brunch with the boyfriend, play date with the puppy, dry cleaners, mani/pedi with a girlfriend, Whole Foods, etc….y’all know the drill because you probably have a ritual or 2 of your own.

But one of my favorite times of the weekend is a time I like to refer to as PIT: Personal Improvement Time.  I have talked about my love of PIT before, but for those of you that don’t remember, it is my time to do all of that weird/strange/private/beauty maintenance related stuff that WE ALL DO but don’t really talk about. My PIT is full of things like teeth bleaching, at home waxing kits (not recommended for obvious reasons!), face masks, closet cleaning, and of course, long, hot showers!

Recently, I spilled my makeup bag and shared some of my favorite cosmetic products….and in that post, I also mentioned my love for the Clarisonic Mia.  It’s a tool that my face has grown accustom to and depends on in order to stay smooth clear. But come summertime, when the spray tans get more frequent and the skin all over your body gets more a little more oily, it’s nice to have a something other than a washcloth or loofah in the shower: Enter the CLARISONIC PLUS….my new favorite beauty item for the shower.

I know what you’re thinking, “Courtney, why on Earth do you need 2 Clarisonics?” Well, here’s my justification:

  1. I can keep my Clarisonic Mia at the sink and my Clarisonic PLUS in the shower.
  2. The Clarisonic PLUS has the ability to hold 2 different brush heads: one for the face and a much larger one for the body….so not only can I make sure that my face gets the extra exfoliating it needs, but I can brighten up the skin on my body as well (and considering its bikini season, anything we can do to help the body is good!)
  3. Because, in true Courtney fashion, if you think something is nice, just buy it twice :)

Have you invested in a Clarisonic product yet? Has it totally changed your life?! And, what are some of your weekend rituals that you do during PIT?!
