Today in Dallas most kiddos are off to their “First Day of School,” therefore I have decided to take y’all down memory lane with me. Let’s rewind 20 years….

It’s August 1992: My mother and I would spend countless hours at Hulen Mall in Fort Worth, TX searching for the utmost perfectly styled outfit at The Limited Too…and once I had selected the sickest patchwork shorts and matching vest, I would stand in my bedroom on Westerly Road and stare at my Jonathan Taylor Thomas covered walls and hope that a boy like that might come sit next to me in the Bryson Elementary lunchroom and tell me he admired my personal style, fashion bravery, and ability to spot the trends.  Little did I know, that would be the year in which my buck teeth and overteased bangs would spur the MOST AWKWARD YEAR OF MY LIFE.

Fast forward to the present day: Not much has changed…except my mom found a life-changing orthodontist who fixed the buck teeth and I think JTT might have come out of the closet, no?

But now this all has me wondering: Did the 10 year old have it right all along? Despite my outfit, was my 5th grade confidence the key to being able to pull off a great outfit?  When it boils down to it, maybe style really isn’t about spotting trends or having the biggest bank account to support your shopping habit….Perhaps good style is just about having swagger like its the First Day of School?!

Wow, you just went way back to our days of retainers and big bangs at Bryson! I have wondered many times how I did not get picked on for my lip bumper retainer that made me look like I was dipping. I guess we did have swagger back then :) Congrats on your new show!
